ATP World Tour 1000 Series: Indian Wells

The first destination of the 2014 edition of the ATP World Tour 1000 series is sunny California with the annual Indian Wells Masters tournament. Roger Federer holds the record for the most titles won at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden with 4. Rafael Nadal is just one win away from tying Federer’s feat after beating Juan Martin del Potro in the Final match last year.

European Tour

March is two more events on the 2014 European Tour.

Tshwane Open

One of the newest golf tournaments on the European Tour, the Tshwane Open was founded just a year ago with the inaugural event taking place at the Copperleaf Golf & Country Estate in Centurion, South Africa. Dawie van der Walt became the first ever winner of the tournament as he beat fellow South Arfican, Darren Fichardt by 2 strokes last year.

Trophee Hassan

The city of Agadir in Morocco will once again be on the receiving end of the spotlight as golf fans all over the world take notice of the 2014 Trophee Hassan tournament. Last year, Michael Siem became the first German to ever win the event.

ATP World Tour 500 Series: Acapulco

For the past six years, the Mexican Open has been dominated by the top tennis players from Spain. Last year, Rafael Nadal ended David Ferrer’s three year streak of winning the event by beating him in the Final.

ATP World Tour 500 series: Miami

Andy Murray bested David Ferrer in three long sets in last year’s Final to win his second Miami Masters championship. Over in the Women’s division, Serena Williams foiled the hopes of Maria Sharapova, denying her another chance at capturing the Miami Masters championship, as the Russian fell in the Final match of the tournament for the third straight year. This year, more drama is set to unfold as the best tennis players in the world compete at the beautiful Tennis Center at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne, Miami, Florida.

ATP World Tour 500

This month, Balls Channel will feature the ATP World Tour 500 series held in Rotterdam, Rio and Dubai.

ATP World Tour 500 series: Rotterdam

After falling to Roger Federer in the 2012 Final, Juan Martin del Potro made sure he did not falter the second time around as he defeated Frenchman Julien Benneteau to capture his first Rotterdam Open title.

ATP World Tour 500 series: Rio

The Rio de Janeiro Open, formerly known as the Banespa Open, which took place for two years in 1989 and 1990 will be revived this year as a part of the ATP World Tour 500 series. Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer have confirmed their participation in the event.

ATP World Tour 500 series: Dubai

Known for its history of famous tennis personalities who have won the event, the Dubai Tennis Championships once again welcomes greatness to the hardcourts at the Aviation Tennis Centre in Dubai. Last year, Novak Djokovic outdueled Tomas Berdych to win for the tournament for the fourth time after winning it for three straight years from 2009 to 2011.

European Tour

There are two events in the 2014 European Tour that will be featured on BALLS Channel this month.

Joburg Open

Since its institution in 2007, the Joburg Open has taken place at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is the tenth event lined up for the 2014 season of the ever growing European Tour. Hometown favorite Richard Sterne is the defending champion of the event.

Witness the 2014 Joburg Open every day at 4:00 pm starting from February 7 until 10, 2014.

Africa Open

In the six year history of the Africa Open, no player outside of South Africa has captured the title. Darren Fichardt rose above the competition in last year’s event which is held annually at the East London Golf Club in Eastern Cape, South Africa.

European Tour

The 2014 European Tour is already underway and BALLS Channel has three events lines up for all you golf fans in the Philippines this month.

Abu Dhabi Golf Championship

One of the newer tournaments on the European Tour, the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship saw American Chris DiMarco win the inaugural event back in 2006. Germany’s Martin Kaymer currently leads the list of champions having won the tournament three times already (2008, 2010 and 2011) while England’s Paul Casey is the only other golfer to win on multiple occasions with two titles (2008 and 2010).

This year’s Abu Dhabi Golf Championship can be seen on Balls Channel from January 16-19, 2014 at 5:00 pm.

Qatar Masters

The next event on the European Tour that is scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates is the Qatar Masters. Since holding its first ever tournament in 1998, the Qatar Masters has shown stability by successfully staging events each year. 2014 marks the 17th edition of the Qatar Masters.

Dubai Desert Classic

Closing out the first month of the year is the first European Tour event to be staged in the Middle East: The Dubai Desert Classic.

Big names in the sport like Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Miguel Angel Jimenez are included among those who have won the event in the past. Last year, Stephen Gallacher joined the list of champions in the Dubai Desert Classic.

UAAP Volleyball

Winless teams University of the Philippines and University of the East end their first round campaign with a much-awaited face-off in the 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament. Both teams have not won a single match this season and are hoping to end the first half of the tourney on a positive note.

In the main game, traditional rivals University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University slug it out for a third victory.

BALLS will air the same day replays starting at 8 pm.
