Injury-plagued
Arsenal was not given an easy path to the Group Stage as Turkish club
Fenerbahce stands in their way. They were soundly beaten 1-3 by Aston
Villa in their first match in the English Premier League last weekend
and are pressured to perform well in this tournament. Fenerbahce are currently appealing a
two-year European ban for match-fixing in the Turkish league. The
decision will be finalized before the second leg of this contest and can
save Arsenal if they end up losing to Fenerbahce on aggregate. If
Fenerbahce is disqualified, Arsenal goes through to the next round.
